Genotropin is a recombinant human growth hormone (somatropin) used for the treatment of growth hormone deficiency in children and adults. The 12 mg (36 IU) formulation is one of the available strengths for subcutaneous administration.

Indications

• Pediatric Use: Genotropin is indicated for growth failure due to inadequate secretion of endogenous growth hormone, Turner syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, idiopathic short stature, and children born small for gestational age who fail to show catch-up growth235.

• Adult Use: It is used for replacement therapy in adults with growth hormone deficiency, either due to adult-onset or childhood-onset conditions35.

Dosage

• Pediatric Patients: Typically, a dose of 0.025 to 0.035 mg/kg body weight per day is administered2.

• Adult Patients: Therapy usually starts with a dose of 0.1 to 0.2 mg per day, gradually increased as needed, with maintenance doses rarely exceeding 0.5 mg per day
