Description

Indication

• Casodex is indicated for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer in combination with luteinizing-hormone releasing hormone (LHRH) analogue therapy or surgical castration.

Dosage

• The recommended dose is one 50 mg tablet once daily, with or without food.
• Treatment with Casodex should be started at least 3 days before commencing treatment with an LHRH analogue, or at the same time as surgical castration.

Hepatic Impairment

• Casodex should be used with caution in patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment, as its elimination may be slower, leading to increased accumulation.
• Periodic liver function testing should be considered due to the possibility of hepatic changes, which are rarely severe and were frequently transient.

Contraindications

• Casodex is contraindicated in females and children.
• It is also contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the excipients, and in patients taking terfenadine, astemizole or cisapride.
